Foodworks
We partner with Foodworks to provide cheap, healthy meals (“just meals”) from surplus food – plus free emergency meals for those in need.
Food Works / January 2026 Newsletter
Hello Richard!
We are back in full swing to take on 2026! We wanted to thank you all for a fantastic 2025, and share a few highlights of what we achieved together to build a fair and sustainable food system for Sheffield:
We repurposed 359 tonnes of surplus food and prevented it from being wasted, avoiding a carbon footprint of over 1000 tonnes!
Our 2 kitchens cooked a total of 56,865 healthy, affordable and sustainable community meals, 30,306 served in our cafes and 26,559 boxed up as Just Meals, which are available at over 20 locations across the city, and now also in Rotherham!
Over 100 schools were able to grow food with plants we raised in Norton
None of this would be possible though without you! Whether you are a customer partner, sponsor or volunteer, your support is what makes all this incredible change possible! How can you get involved with Food Works in 2026?
Patron boxes are back!
After a short break for the Christmas closures, all slots are back open for weekly patron box collections from Handsworth, Sharrow and Upperthorpe.
Our 4 for 3 box offer continues*, so if you've not already signed up - what are you waiting for? Each box is packed with something different each week - often a veggie grown at our very own farm too!
Make a donation
Following our 4th break in at Norton Nurseries, we decided to put this out on our socials to make the community aware of what has been happening.
We wanted to thank everyone who responded with a comment or share of the post, and also to those who were able to give a donation to Food Works.
If you are able to donate to us today, your contribution help us continue all the work we do in the community - from growing food plants from seed for schools or saving surplus to make our Just Meals.Volunteer with us

Food Works is coordinated by our fairly small but excellent team of staff. None of our work would be possible though without the absolutely incredible volunteer effort that goes into all of this.
In 2025, we logged 25,683 hours of volunteer time, including a total of 357 volunteer tasters for new volunteers - almost 1 for every day of the year!We are always looking for volunteers in the warehouse, kitchen, farm, market and more. If you have a skill or interest you’d love to explore, or just want to come along and help out, we’d love to hear from you. You could be part of our mission to build a fair food system for all!
