Our trip to Epworth - the "home of Methodism"

10 October 2026 11:45

Today we enjoyed a coach trip to Epworth Old Rectory.

Only an hour away it's a village with a great history as the home of the famous Wesley family - or should we say "infamous".

Rev Wesley senior was not a well liked Vicar of the parish church and the locals made this known. He also ended up in debtors prison. But his amazing wife (Suzannah) raised his 10 children, educated them whilst also caring for his congregation - a truly trailblazing, woman of the 1700s. Two of her offspring, John and Charles Wesley were the founders of methodism.

If you fancy a day out, enjoy a bit of history, a bit of shopping and a few bakeries then we can recommend it.

If you can't get there then have a watch of Rev Sean's Methodism series on our Youtube channel and specifically Episode 1.There's also a few photos attached.
